Carlos Duarte, Texas State Director for Mi Familia Vota,  is a Mexican immigrant who has worked on progressive social change for the past 20 years, both in Mexico and the United States. He currently helps promote civic participation within the Latino community as the Texas State Director for Mi Familia Vota Education Fund.

For the past 15 years, Carlos has worked diligently in advancing the interests of working families and the immigrant and Latino communities in Arizona and Texas. He was honored to represent the Mexican community in Arizona by addressing former Mexican President Vicente Fox during his 2003 visit.

Carlos has worked with the Industrial Areas Foundation, Arizona State University’s Building Great Communities, Roofers Union, and Service Employees International Union. He has volunteered in numerous boards and commissions and is a recognized Latino leader having received numerous awards.

Carlos holds a Master’s Degree in Social and Industrial Psychology and a Bachelor’s Degree in Philosophy from the Universidad Autonoma de Chihuahua. He is currently an Arizona State University PhD candidate in Social and Cultural Anthropology with dissertation work on Latin American undocumented immigrant’s political participation.

Due to limited seating, attendance is limited to Texas’ 7th Congressional District constituents only. Picture IDs with proof of current address will be required for check-in. Check-in will begin at 1:30 pm.

Items that inhibit the participation or view of fellow constituents will be prohibited, including, but not limited to, signs, banners, noisemakers, and bullhorns. Constituents who attempt to bring prohibited items into the event will be asked to dispose of the item or return it to their vehicle. Anyone who leaves the check-in process to dispose of a prohibited item will have to join the back of the line for check-in.

Upon check-in, constituents will have the opportunity to submit written questions, which will be randomly drawn for response.

The March meeting of the Bellaire/Braeswood Democrats features State Representative Gene Wu (District 137).   Representative Wu will be discussing various legislative proposals going on in the current session of the Texas Legislature, with special attention on potential assaults on the human rights and dignity of Texas residents.
