Topic: 2018 Texas election and prospects for 2020, plus County Clerk Trautman’s plan for the Adoption of Election Day vote Centers in Harris County

Professor Stein is an expert on urban politics and public policy. He is co-author of Perpetuating the Pork Barrel: Policy Subsystems and American Democracy (1995, Cambridge University Press), and author of Urban Alternatives: Public and Private Markets in the Provision of Local Services (1990, Pittsburgh Press). His work has also appeared in a wide range of scholarly journals.

Dr. Stein’s current research has been supported by the National Science Foundation and examines the impact of the federal aid system on the electoral trajectories of office holders at both the subnational and congressional levels. Other research examines collective action among metropolitan area governments and voting behavior.

November Meeting

Please join the Bellaire/Braeswood Democrats for an exciting evening with guest speaker Charles Kuffner with “Off the Kuff”.  Charles will offer a post Midterm General Election analysis, and discuss what we might expect in 2020.  We will also be celebrating the great voter turnout in Harris County, the many accomplishments made by our Democratic candidates, and the hard work put in by all!

OCTOBER MEETING

Please join the Bellaire/Braeswood Democrats on Monday, October 22nd to hear an important presentation by Americans United for Separation of Church and State, Houston Chapter – George S. Tallichet.  Mr. Tallichet will discuss the Johnson Amendment – a provision in federal tax code that protects the integrity of tax-exempt organizations, including houses of worship, by ensuring they do not endorse or oppose political candidates.  


Please arrive at 6pm for the “Dutch treat” dinner social portion of our meeting.  Announcements will begin at 6:45pm with program beginning promptly at 7pm.

August 13 Meeting

Please join Bellaire/Braeswood Democrats for our August meeting, which will be an interactive “Precinct by Precinct G.O.T.V. Workshop”, where you’ll have the opportunity to learn about, and volunteer for various rolls and activities planned in your precinct to get out the vote.
NOW is the time to join in and make an impact between now and Election Day, November 6, 2018.
Harris County Democratic Party will also be announcing the rollout of the Fall G.O.T.V. initiative.  Light food and drinks will be provided.
